The Patina House

Located in Cottesloe, Western Australia, the Patina house is a contemporary residence that combines clean architectural forms, expansive glazing and a considered selection of natural materials.

Externally, the project features Trendplank 120 x 19mm T&G in Burnt Ash, used across the external walls and garage door to introduce warmth, texture and a natural weathered character to the home’s crisp rendered forms. Complementary 22 x 22mm Burnt Ash elements add a strong vertical rhythm to the upper level, framing the expansive glazing and creating depth across the façade.

The Burnt Ash cladding was sanded to 180 grit to ensure a deep bond between the timber and coating system, the timber was then end-matched and pre-coated in the SiOO:X Wood Protection System, providing a consistent factory-applied finish while allowing the natural character and patina of the timber to develop. The 22 x 22mm Burnt Ash Internal Corner and External X-Corner Profiles provide considered detailing around the timber elements, contributing to a clean and cohesive finish throughout the exterior.

The combination of Burnt Ash timber, glazing, rendered surfaces and natural stone creates a refined material palette that balances the home’s contemporary architectural forms with the warmth and evolving character of natural timber.
