What timber species are BAL Rated and what does BAL mean?

The below species are BAL rated however they meet different levels:

  • BAL 12.5 – Pacific Teak, Spotted Gum, Ironbark, Blackbutt, Jarrah
  • BAL 19 – Pacific Teak, Spotted Gum, Ironbark, Blackbutt, Jarrah
  • BAL 29 – Spotted Gum, Ironbark, Blackbutt

What is a BAL ? (Bushfire Attack Level) A Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) is a means of measuring the severity of a building’s potential exposure to ember attack, radiant heat and direct flame contact.
